Unbound and bouncing back
As a long time admin of Sun Directory products, I was naturally drawn to the original cn=Directory Manager blog authored by then-Sun employees Neil Wilson and Don Bowen, who were at the time the center of Sun’s OpenDS development effort. Sun’s precipitous decision to move its directory development overseas was a surprise to everyone in the IDM (IDentity Management) community.
Not to be undone by something so trivial as sudden unemployment, Neil and Don bounced back as part of a startup called UnboundID, which markets directory and identity related technologies, including an LDAP directory based on OpenDS, an LDAP proxy, a sync server for migrating from Sun DS, and, most recently, a new Java SDK for LDAP.
Neil recently did a talk for developers on the aforementioned SDK at LDAPCon 2009, a conference hosted by the OpenLDAP Project and Symas, the leading commercial vendor of OpenLDAP technology. Well worth a look-see.
